What does it take to become an 

IFSD Registered Fire Department?

By "Registering" with IFSD you are showing that you have Recognition of any Fire Department responding to and supporting Indigenous Communities comes with some basic establishing criteria to receive the Certificate Award. 

This shows that the Fire Department has established the basic leadership, governance, structure, standards, branding, contact and operational minimums. 

PREREQUISITES

• FD is officially / Legally established (e.g., BCR)

• FD must be over 2 years old (e.g., Not starting)

• FD must have a "head" (e.g., Chief) and responders

• FD must have a Response Vehicle (e.g., Fire Truck)

• FD must have a statement on it's purpose (e.g., Mission, Vision, Values, Strategy, etc.)

AWARD

Upon successful acceptance the Fire Chief or the Department Designate will receive the following items as a "Registered IFSD Fire Department."

• IFSD Registered, Fire Department Certificate

• IFSD Cloth Patch

• IFSD Lapel Pin

• IFSD Website Listing

• Access to IFSD Reference Information

HOW TO APPLY

There are several "Headings" on the form to provide which include:

• Name of the Fire Chief / Head of the Fire Department

• 2nd Person (like Deputy, Fire Prevention, Training Officer) 

• Min. 6 to 10 Firefighters (and medics if medical response)

• The established Fire Dept. name 'as registered'

• Governance Statement and Leadership Structure (Org Chart)

• Purpose Statement/s (Mission, Vision, Values, Strategy, Motto, etc.)

• A sample SOG / SOP for the Fire Department 

• A sample of the Fire Dept. member recruiting form/s

• Fire Department Logo (JPG, PNG, GIF, Ai, EPS, File etc.)

• Any Brand Standards (Optional)

• Address and Telephone Number

• Dedicated Fire Rescue Website and Email Address

• Social Media Presence (e.g. LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, etc.) 

• Additional supports

  • Chief's Resolution

  • Band Council Resolution (BCR)

  • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

  • Other Supports (Municipal Service Agreement, Mutual Aid, etc.)
